To those that have finished levels 1- 5 of a Rosetta Stone program, what language was it and would you consider yourself fluent? It's a great way to start (if the program is gifted to you, because it's overpriced). My parents gave me both as gifts because foreign languages are my biggest passion. Both were useful for getting a functional start in the languages, but FLUENCY will take considerable additional effort. Depending on your definition of fluent.

Now if you're going somewhere for a semester of study, an extended trip, or to meet some foreign relatives / relatives of an SO, Rosetta Stone 1- 5 will probably be sufficient to get you through. If you truly want fluency, Rosetta Stone will be a pricey but good start on that path. Last word - if you're interested in a romance language, Rosetta Stone is good. My fellow language freak friends tell me RS for Eastern languages is NOT effective. Frankly, there are so many free resources online for so many languages that I'd suggest a few pointed Google searches or a visit to /r/languagelearning. There's probably an entire subreddit for your target language, check the sidebar on /r/languagelearning.
